Sheryl Sandberg gave the 2016 UC Berkeley Commencement Address

Sheryl Sandberg gave the 2016 UC Berkeley Commencement Address.

She has learned more from death than life. (Her husband died one year and 13 days ago unexpectedly from a heart attack while they were on vacation in Mexico.)

She wrote the book: Lean In (which I want to read) and is the COO (Chief Operating Officer) at FB.

It was an amazing commencement address. Talk about honesty. Wow, imagine being one of the graduating students of the class of 2016 hearing her address?

She talked about "the three Ps".
Personal Evasion - How you process the negative events of your life.
Pervasiveness an event will affect your life.
Permanence: The belief the sorrow will last forever.

Instead of being in the:
everything is awesome camp.
she is in the everything is awful camp.

And yet, here are some very important facts that she has in her life:
A job/career she loves (COO at FB), her children, her friends, her family, and wrote the best seller book: Lean In.
She has financial security.
She has a job she loves.
She is encouraged to spend all day on FB!

It was amazing to watch her give her speech (It can be seen on FB as a stream) and see the “sadness well” right next to her all the time.

Her Rabbi told her to “Lean Into the Suck”. That’s not what she meant when she said to Lean In.

Pizza - the fourth “P”!

The kindness of her friends.
The love of her family.
The laughter of her children.

At the end of every day - list what you are grateful for.
Write down three moments of joy that you have each day!
Live as if you only had 11 days left! - How precious each day is!
Find a job you believe in!
Live each day with joy and meaning.
Make the world a better place and speak up!
Be grateful for each step you take.
You have the ability to learn and grow.
